Cristina Henriques holds a PhD in Urban Planning from the Technical University of Lisbon and a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the Nova University of Lisbon. She has a postgraduate degree in Land Information Surveying, by the Erasmus Program, and in Geographic Information Systems by the Instituto Superior Técnico. In 1990, she received a grant from the Instituto de Investigación Científica Tropical for the creation of the "Atlas de Cabo Verde" and from the Scientific and Technological Investigation National Council, at the Geographic Institute of the Army, to participate in the international project "Vector Smart Map". She carried out several fieldworks in Maputo that allowed the elaboration of her doctoral thesis and the publication of the book "Maputo. Cinco décadas de mudança territorial. O uso do solo observado por tecnologias de informação geográfica" published in 2008 by the Portuguese Institute for Development Support (IPAD). In 2001, she created the Cartography Center of the Faculty of Architecture, having coordinated its activity until July 2014. She is currently Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, where she teaches curricular units in the area of geography and geographic information systems.
